| Lehmann accompanist Erno Balogh diesNoted pianist-composer Erno Balogh died June 2 [1989] at a retirement home in Michellville, MD, according to a New York Times article June 6. He was 92. He made his first public appearance as a pianist in Budapest, the city of his birth, at the age of four, and was only eight when one of his compositions was published. In his teens he studied piano with Bartok and composition with Kodaly. The Times article states that "During his early years in New York, Mr. Balogh worked as an accompanist for the violinist Fritz Kreisler and the soprano Lotte Lehmann." He is survived by his wife, Dr. Malvina Schweitzer. -JS | |||
