CyberSing 2004: See and Hear the winners

The Lehmann Foundation Educational Projects

You may experience our latest project "LyricLanguages." Its goal is to introduce art song to student via foreign language labs

You may want to read our recent Newsletters or our monthly reports we call Lehmann Letters

Classical song is basking in a renewed appreciation with many new recordings of present and past song composers. Song festivals now occur around the world, and not just in major cities. But the surviving music appreciation teachers in schools seldom teach anything about classical song. This neglect denies students of all ages and nationalities the opportunity to enjoy their rich and varied musical/poetic heritage as well as the creative expression of contemporary poets and composers. To help correct this omission we created the Educational Projects. The only projects directly used in schools at this time are LyricLanguages and the art song video. We expect to be more involved in enriching school curricula in the future.

  • LyricLanguages is our most recent educational endeavor. The idea is to bring art song into the foreign language computer lab. With the combination of great poetry, music and fine art, the student can better learn the language and be exposed to art song.

  • The Lotte Lehmann Foundation has produced a demo video, “Three American Art Songs,” which is being tested and used in schools in the US, Canada and Australia.

  • Digital SupraTitles for the traveling art song performer can provide the audience with the possibility of following the words of foreign poetry as it being sung, without looking away from the singer.

  • Local song contests can open the community of classical singers to the public. Read our suggestions for developing your own.

  • The Lotte Lehmann Foundation developed CyberSing, the first international web-based art song vocal competition. The next CyberSing will occur in 2006. The CyberSing 2004 Winners can be heard on this site.

  • Opera companies and symphony orchestras are on-going institutions that not only promote their own products, but "opera" and "symphonic music" in general. No such support exists for classical song. The Lotte Lehmann Foundation assists the preservation and dissemination of art song by furnishing background information, developing publicity and providing links within this vital world.

Song! is funded and maintained by the Lotte Lehmann Foundation, a non-profit organization with 501(c) (3) status from the United States IRS. Contributions to the Foundation are tax deductable to the full extent of the law and will help to spread classical song both online and in ears throughout the whole world. You too can support the Foundation and this website.
